About the Artist

Joel is an Asian American graphic design student and video illustrator. Like many others, he often finds himself getting lost in his head with negative thoughts. Creating art has allowed him to change his negativity into something a little more beautiful. His ambitions are to not only help himself, but also to encourage others to appreciate the little things in life. Since Joel primarily works with digital work, he often uses Procreate and Adobe applications. He starts off by drawing illustrations on Procreate, then transfers it onto Photoshop to touch up the designs. Once he finalizes his artwork, he then moves onto After Effects where he adds a spark of motion into the design.  All these steps are crucial for Joel’s work because he believes that it can often amplify the viewers enjoyment and allow them to become fully immersed into his artwork. During his journey, a tattoo artist named Woojin Cho’s techniques have greatly inspired Joel's work. Joel often studies the techniques in Woojin’s tattoos such as elegant forms and seamless line work. The meaning behind Woojin's work also fascinates Joel because he touches upon topics of lifeforms losing their vitality, but also embracing the idea of new beginnings.
